want a better relationship with absolutely anyone?

Oh my! The stories we make up about what is going on and about other people! It’s the curse of individualism – when we are supposed to do everything by ourselves and not need others, we also do relationships by ourselves. We make up stories based on our best guesses about the motives or reasons in the behavior or words of another then act upon what we guess.

We also take guesses as to the best ways to move forward then take action based on those guesses without ever engaging the other person. We just do what we think is the best thing given what we imagine and having no concrete information from the other person.

I’ve been away for awhile in the undertow and currents of life – have been shifting my focus and intention to flow and some interesting things are happening. I’ve determined that being in flow, without attachment to certain things happening or attaining certain goals, is a much more joyous state to be in, yet somehow harder to stay connected to.

I used to be very flow oriented. I’m not sure when I got pulled away from it. But I do know it had a lot to do with the environment of people I was in.

We are so independence minded that we often don’t see how much we are affected by our environment. People are an environment for us. So is television, magazines, indoor and outdoor spaces…

So I got lost, away from the flow and the deeper nature of my own truth, and started sleepwalking. I was not in an environment that supported that essential aspect of my self. I am, of course, accountable for the choices I made in this regard.

I currently am blessed with people in my life who are environments that support and encourage my deeper self. They are real with me, love me, and see my beauty even when I can’t or don’t or forget.

I didn’t get back to these essentials in myself because I went on some meditation retreat. I got back to the essentials because people around me brought me back. Not only does getting reconnected to flow feel good, but it’s deeper this time because it isn’t just me experiencing it inside myself, it’s being talked about with others and shared with others and strengthening community and connection. It’s richer this time.

What essential part of your self has not been supported and enhanced by your environment? Who do you need to be around more to be supported in your essential self? Who can you ask to support you more in your essential self. What do you need for this? When will you make that request and step toward your deepest joy?

John, Iso, Jim, Ron, Susan, Soozy, Jenny, Fran – thank you for your light and your love. It means more to me than you know.
